The Super-Nutrient for Sleep with Stimulants: L-Theanine
L-Theanine is an ingredient found in both Recoop’s Balance and Recovery formulas. It’s so nice, we included it twice: once for day and once for night. That’s because L-Theanine delivers so much of what’s needed when using stimulants to stay balanced and to fully recover, plus there’s excellent research supporting how this ingredient works for people who have diagnosed ADHD.
“Findings indicated that boys [diagnosed with ADHD] who consumed L-theanine obtained significantly higher sleep percentage and sleep efficiency scores, along with a non-significant trend for less activity during sleep (defined as less time awake after sleep onset) compared to those in the placebo group.” - read the full study here
Sleep is critical when using stimulants and L-Theanine has been studied to show that it can up both the amount of sleep and the quality of sleep. There are 200 mg of L-Theanine in Recoop’s night formula, Recovery. L-Theanine supports relaxation and helps support rest by contributing to a number of changes in the brain including increasing levels of GABA (Gamma-amino Butyric Acid), tempering levels of excitatory brain chemicals and promoting alpha brain waves.
“L-theanine alone improved self-reported relaxation, tension, and calmness starting at 200 mg. L-theanine and caffeine combined were found to particularly improve performance in attention-switching tasks and alertness” - read the full study here
L-theanine helps to create a sense of calm that can balance some of the jitters that sometimes come with taking stimulants. This is why 75 mg are included in Recoop’s daytime formula so you can feel the smooth sense of relaxation while staying focused all day long. When L-Theanine is actively combined with caffeine, the study above showed how it helped with task switching.
“...the combination [of caffeine and L-Theanine] also led to faster simple reaction time, faster numeric working memory reaction time and improved sentence verification accuracy.” - read the full study here
L-theanine was shown in this study to support people using caffeine as a stimulant with cognitive function and reaction time. Recoup helps support better tolerance to stimulants by replacing the nutrients the brain needs to function at its best and the ones that get lost when taking stimulants over time. L-theanine helps maintain healthy brain function so you can think and perform at your best.
